Sherrod Brown Polls Show His Chances of Beating Bernie Moreno in Ohio

Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is leading Republican challenger Bernie Moreno in November according to a new survey from the conservative leaning Rasmussen Reports.
The poll of 1,267 likely voters in Ohio, conducted from August 13 to August 17, shows Brown with a 5-point lead with 47 percent of the vote against Moreno’s 42 percent.
Democrats currently enjoy a thin Senate majority with 51 Senators caucusing with the party, including several who are formally independents, while 49 do the same for the GOP. Republicans are hoping to flip the Senate in November and are widely expected to capture the West Virginia seat being vacated by independent Senator Joe Manchin, a former Democrat who has continued to caucus with the party.
Rasmussen Reports is known for working closely with various conservative organizations and earlier this year was removed from the list of pollsters included on the FiveThirtyEight aggregation website, according to The Washington Post.
The Rasmussen Ohio poll closely matches one of 400 likely voters conducted by ActiVote between July 20 and August 12, which showed Brown with a 5-point lead with 52.5 percent of the vote against Moreno’s 47.5 percent .
Similarly a survey of 600 likely voters in the state conducted by AARP Research between July 23 and July 28 found 46 percent of voters were planning to back Brown, putting him 4 points ahead of Moreno on 42 percent.
Newsweek contacted the office of Brown and Moreno’s senate campaign for comment via email and online inquiry form respectively.
Rasmussen Reports also conducted polling between August 13 and August 17 in the key Senate battleground states of Arizona, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
In Arizona 1,187 likely voters were surveyed, with 48 percent indicating they would vote for current Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego in the Senate race while 40 percent said they would back Republican Kari Lake.
In Pennsylvania, Democratic incumbent Senator Bob Casey leads GOP rival David McCormick, 46 percent to 43 percent, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,312 voters in the state.
And in Michigan, Democrat Elissa Slotkin has a 45 percent to 43 percent lead against Republican Mike Rogers in a survey of 1,093 voters in the state.
Between July 26 and August 2 surveys of likely voters were conducted in the battleground states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by Cook Political Report/GS Strategy Group/BSG Swing State Project. This polled 435 voters in Arizona, 406 in Michigan, 403 in Nevada, 411 in Pennsylvania and 404 in Wisconsin.
The polls found the Democratic candidates were ahead of their Republican rivals in clutch contests in all five states, with the GOP having only improved their vote since the previous survey in May in Wisconsin.
